We offer supervised exercise programs designed to help increase
cardiac endurance, strength and flexibility. An individualized
exercise program is designed for each participant to specifically
meet their goals.
These exercise programs require a physician referral and include:
- Phase
II Cardiac Rehabilitation
Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation is an exercise/education
class for patients with angina, recent heart attack, heart attack
with stent placement, recent open heart surgery and recent valve
replacement surgery. Included in the class are exercise,
nutritional education and stress management. Class lasts
for 12 weeks.
Each patient wears telemetry monitors continuously throughout
the class. These monitor the patient's heart rate and heart rhythm. Blood
pressure and oxygen saturation levels are monitored at rest and
with activity. After the 12 week class patients can enroll
in the maintenance classes for further exercise. Physician
referral is required.
- Maintenance
classes
Maintenance classes include cardiac and pulmonary
patients that have been in either Phase II cardiac rehabilitation
or pulmonary rehabilitation. This class emphasizes cardiovascular
exercise with light weight training. Ongoing education
and healthy lifestyle behaviors are also included in this class.
Each patient will have their weight checked at the beginning
of each class and their blood pressure and oxygen saturation
levels monitored at rest and with activity. Physician
referral is required.
- Pulmonary
Rehabilitation
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a comprehensive
program designed to help patients suffering with pulmonary disease
better understand their illness and methods to treat it.
Pulmonary rehabilitation is considered the standard of care
for patients with COPD, Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, Asthma
and Pulmonary Hypertension in our community.
Each session consists of a warm-up, upper extremity strengthening
exercises, stretching, aerobic conditioning, cool down, breathing
exercises and techniques and skills training (i.e. breathing
techniques, bronchial hygiene, pacing and energy conservation,
MDI use, coping skills, relaxation, proper nutrition, oxygen
therapy and smoking cessation).
Each patient meets with a respiratory therapist for education. Physician
referral is required.
Phase
II and Maintenance
Classes are also offered at the Silt
Clinic.
In addition to the exercise classes, we offer weekly nutrition
class with the dietician and "Yoga of the Heart" classes. These
classes focus on Heart healthy eating habits and stress management. These
are offered once a week at Valley View Hospital.
Patients must pre-register for these classes.
