What is Patient-Centered Care?

Defined by the Institute of Medicine as "Providing care that is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs and values and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions."

Valley View embraced the Planetree philosophy in 2000, and each staff member, physician and volunteer has taken the mission of patient-centered care to heart. Planetree is a philosophy that focuses all decisions, first and foremost on the patient - as it should be.  It's about doing what's right for the patient and their families; creating a partnership designed to solidify the collaboration of all caregivers and patients.

In 2007, Valley View became one of five hospitals nationwide, to be named a Designated Planetree Patient-Centered Hospital. This designation recognizes Valley View's achievements in patient comfort, dignity, empowerment and well-being.
Designation carries forward our level of compassionate care through excellence. The Joint Commission now recognizes Designated Planetree Hospitals on its Quality Check website.

Our patient satisfaction scores and safety ratings have grown into the high-90th percentile since Valley View became a Planetree hospital.  The impact of patient-centered care is being felt across the nation and around the world as more healthcare facilities are applying to become a Planetree affiliate.

Our Mission is…To be the leader for excellence in personalized care and healing.
