Sleep Studies

If you're suffering from forgetfulness, irritability, anxiety or depression, the underlying cause may be a sleep disturbance.

Our Sleep Study facility is designed to diagnose and treat such problems. The most common of these problems is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), in which the muscles of the tongue and soft palate fail to keep the airway to the lungs open.

During an apnea event, the sleeper struggles for breath, often making gasping, snorting noises until the tongue and throat muscles become active again. People are often unaware they have the condition (although their spouses may suspect it).

To help diagnose and treat OSA, Valley View Hospital Respiratory Therapy Department offers overnight sleep studies.

Participants spend the night in a specialized room at Valley View Hospital, observed and monitored by sleep technologists and therapeutic recommendations are made using the results of the test.

The music needs to have a particular beat to induce a physical state whereby your breathing and heart rate slow down and your blood pressure lowers.
