  • The Heart and Vascular Center at Valley View specializes in advanced vascular surgeries of your veins and arteries. Vascular disease can be managed through medication, minimally invasive catheter procedures or surgical reconstruction.

Common vascular procedures performed at the Heart and Vascular Center at Valley View include carotid endarterectomy; peripheral angiography; peripheral angioplasty, stent and atherectomy; abdominal aortic aneurysm repair; and limb preservation. In particular, the Heart & Vascular Center specializes in Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

  • The Heart and Vascular Center at Valley View provides complete surgical care for complex diseases of the heart, chest, lungs and esophagus, led by experienced and nationally recognized Cardiothoracic Surgeon Stephen Jones, MD:

    • Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery: Also known as open heart surgery or CABG, for patients who need new blood flow supplied to the heart muscle that cannot be addressed in the cardiac catheterization lab.
    • Heart Valve Surgery: Both minimally invasive and open procedures are offered.
    • Surgical Treatment for Atrial Fibrillation (AFib): This is a minimally invasive surgical hybrid approach for the treatment of AFib.
    • Thoracic Surgery: New surgical procedures for patients needing lung biopsy, surgery for lung cancer, or tube placement to drain excess fluid from the chest.

Common cardiothoracic conditions treated at the Heart and Vascular Center at Valley View include thoracic diseases, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, Chest Wall Disease and more.

Common lung and chest procedures performed include thoracic surgery, Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS), robotic assisted thoracic surgery, cervical mediastinoscopy, open thoracic surgery, thoracotomy, and more. Furthermore, the Heart and Vascular Center is the only center on the western slope of Colorado to specialize in surgical treatment of MAZE procedure, open lung resections and aneurysms.

Referrals for these services are not required by the Heart & Vascular Center, and the cardiovascular team is available for patients 24/7/365 for emergency care.

  • The VATS MAZE procedure and Convergent approach are examples of cardiothoracic hybrid procedures that can be used to treat patients with persistent atrial fibrillation and long standing persistent atrial fibrillation.

Our Hybrid Catheterization lab offers patients a combined therapeutic surgical approach to their conditions and offers the most modern technology and the most outstanding skilled physicians there are. Diagnostic heart catheterization, percutaneous coronary intervention, robotic percutaneous coronary intervention, intra-aortic balloon pump, percutaneous left ventricular assist device (Impella) are done here. Pacemaker Implants, Implantable cardiac device implants, Biventricular pacemaker/defibrillator implants, diagnostic electrophysiology studies, Advanced radiofrequency (RF) ablations, Cryoablations, Laser ablations, Epicardial ablations are done here.

Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery – We offer treatment options via surgery to improve all vascular conditions and provide a better quality of life for all such as aneurysm repair, EVLTs, arterial bypass, vascular diagnostic imaging, and intervention. We also offer surgical treatment for conditions within the thoracic cavity such as lobectomies, lung biopsies, VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery), thoracotomies, and mediastinoscopies.

Advanced Technology

We have the most advanced heart and vascular technology in the hands of the most reputable specialists. These gold-standard technologies give you access to world-class care in the heart of the Rockies.

Siemens® Bi-plane Hybrid Electrophysiology Lab

This technology helps our cardiac team map defects and target damaged tissue with tremendous accuracy. Bi-plane imaging allows our physicians to see the precise anomalies and individualized contours of each heart and every vessel leading into and out of it, resulting in powerful, personalized care for our patients. This is cardiac care on the leading edge of innovation.

Advanced Imaging

3-D Imaging is a standard technology at Valley View and enables our physicians to create detailed blueprints of personalized heart models, with all their idiosyncrasies, to help reduce procedural complications and create greater patient safety and outcomes. Advanced imaging techniques also decrease exposure to contrast dye for our patients and reduce exposure to ionizing radiation for our physicians and lab techs.

Heart Holographic Imaging

The Hybrid Cardiovascular program at Valley View utilizes images obtained from 64 slice CT scans of the heart, to make patient specific data sets. These data sets are then manipulated with proprietary software to create 3D printed models. These data sets are also used to create LED holographic projections that are utilized during actual procedures to assist in the navigation of complex anatomy and workflow.

Corindus® Robotic Percutaneus Coronary Intervention (PCI) technology

Corindus® puts the precision of a robot in the hands of our heart experts so they can manipulate stents, lead wires, and catheters with unprecedented precision. It allows our surgeons to place stents and guide wires with a millimeter-by-millimeter exactitude that supports positive patient outcomes. For patients, this means better outcomes with shorter downtimes and less radiation exposure.
