Experts in Urology Needs

Urological problems typically aren’t topics of light conversation, but they’re very common maladies across the population, especially as we age. Our urology team is made up of physicians and support staff that specialize in urological care, and can address your questions and concerns in a way a general practice physician can’t. Our physicians are experts in general urology, and have subspecialty experience in urologic cancers, female urology, and kidney stone disease. We also regularly treat conditions like sexual dysfunction, infertility, complex urinary tract infections, urologic pediatric issues, prostatitis, and voiding difficulties.

We know that even the mildest urological difficulty can be a serious inconvenience, so we work to make your treatment as easy on you as possible, with experts in clinics in Aspen, Eagle, Edwards, Rifle, as well as Glenwood Springs, reducing both your travel and wait times.

BENIGN PROSTATE HYPERPLASIA (BPH)

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, or BPH, is a condition in which the prostate enlarges as men get older. BPH is a very common condition that affects over 42 million men in the US and over 660 million aging men worldwide. Over 40% of men in their 50s and over 70% of men in their 60s have BPH. While BPH is a benign condition and unrelated to prostate cancer, it can greatly affect a man’s quality of life.

Symptoms

  • Frequent need to urinate both day and night
  • Weak or slow urinary stream
  • A sense that you cannot completely empty your bladder
  • Difficulty or delay in starting urination
  • Urgent feeling of needing to urinate
  • A urinary stream that stops and starts

If you suffer from BPH symptoms, you are not alone. BPH is the leading reason men visit a urologist.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE TREATMENT FOR BPH

  • The UroLift System is a proven minimally invasive procedure to treat an enlarged prostate. It works by holding the enlarged prostate tissue so it no longer blocks the urethra. It is an earlier treatment option that can get men off BPH medications and avoid major surgery. It is also the only leading enlarged prostate procedure that does not require heating, cutting or destruction of prostate tissue.
The procedure is typically performed as a same-day outpatient procedure, in the office setting, under local anesthesia.

  • Aquablation therapy is a minimally invasive surgical treatment for BPH that uses the power of water delivered with robotic precision to provide long-lasting BPH relief. It is precise, consistent, and predictable.

Aquablation therapy is a resective procedure, which means that the prostate tissue causing symptoms is surgically removed. No incision is made in the abdomen, as the prostate is reached through the urethra. Aquablation therapy is performed in a hospital and is done under anesthesia. The procedure typically takes less than an hour and involves an overnight stay.
The three main advantages to Aquablation therapy include:

    1. Preserves Sexual Function – Aquablation therapy has a very low rates of complications such as ejaculatory dysfunction, erectile dysfunction and more because its surgical mapping makes it more precise.

    2. Robot-Assisted Precision – Aquablation therapy removes prostate tissue with a robotically-controlled waterjet. This robotic technology minimizes human error and ensures the prostate tissue is removed precisely, consistently and predictably.

    3. Long-Term Relief – Aquablation therapy has been shown to provide durable symptom relief.
