What is neurologic rehabilitation?
Neurologic rehabilitation is a type of specialized therapy for individuals who have an injury or diagnosis related to the brain, spinal cord, or peripheral nervous system. The goals of treatment are often to improve mobility and independence, address associated symptoms, and increase your participation and quality of your life. Your personal goals are a guide for your therapy team to shape your unique treatment plan.
Neuro rehabilitation is often a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approach that involves a variety of team members depending on your specific needs. These are including but not limited to:
Physical Therapists
Occupational Therapists
Speech Therapists
Neurologists
Physiatrists
Case Managers
Common reasons individuals with neurologic diagnoses seek out or participate in neurologic rehabilitation:
Difficulty with walking
Increase in loss of balance or falls
Acute loss of strength in one or more parts of your body
Difficulty with functional movements such as rising from a chair, getting in/out of bed, getting on or off the floor
