In order to meet the increasing demand for cardiology services in the Roaring Fork Valley, cardiologist Qaisar Khan, MD, has joined the Heart & Vascular Center at Valley View. He is currently seeing patients at Valley View every third week for clinic and procedures.

Dr. Khan specializes in complex coronary stents, pacemakers, defibrillators, peripheral arterial and venous disease, clots and vein ablation procedures. He was drawn to a career in medicine and specifically heart care, after seeing heart disease first-hand within his own family, when his father had heart stents inserted.

“The way in which physicians are able to ease the pain and bring comfort to their patients is why I decided to pursue medicine,” Dr. Khan says.

Dr. Khan attended medical school at the Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. He then completed his residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Khan has also completed fellowships for cardiovascular CT angiography, and interventional cardiology at Indiana University.

Dr. Khan is board-certified in interventional cardiology, endovascular medicine, nuclear cardiology and echocardiography. He brings a deep understanding of the human heart and the vascular system with him to Valley View, and greatly enjoys problem solving.

“Being able to figure out how I can solve a problem for a patient brings me great joy. I love the challenge.” He especially enjoys complex vascular work with varicose veins, blood circulation, and clot problems, and non-healing wounds.

He chose the Roaring Fork Valley not only because the mountains remind him of the hometown in his native Pakistan, but also because of the state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratories at the Heart & Vascular Center. He also appreciates the support of the community in bringing this type of care to the valley, referencing the philanthropic support of the Roaring Fork community to build the cardiac catheterization labs.
